Dealing with Exam Stress: a News 9 Interview

Recently, MD & CEO of Seshan’s Academy Infinity Pvt. Ltd., Swarnalatha Iyer was invited to be a panelist on NEWS 9 for a discussion on exam- related stress. The panel discussion was telecast live on the English News Channel. Apart from Swarnalatha, who participated as a consultant psychologist and counselor, the panel included child counselors, teachers, students and working professionals. The discussion focussed on multiple aspects of exam and related stress- adressing students and their parents- and attempted to provide workable solutions to both children and parents on how to reduce and deal with stress.

According to Swarnalatha, the approach which society has towards exams is one of fear. People tend to look at examinations as a “monster.” However, examinations are simply a mechanism of feedback to the student, which helps him/ her understand and evaluate where he/ she stands in terms of academics. With this perspective in hand, and by employing effective study skills, children will be able to enjoy their academics and fare well.

The discussion on NEWS 9 also addressed parents and teachers, and how they can form effective support structures for the student. Swarnalatha also spoke about what it is that parents must do in order to be stress-free themselves and nurture their children to face examinations with a stress-free mind.

The live telecast allowed general public to call in with their queries, and panelists addressed callers’ issues.
