MD & CEO, Swarnalatha Iyer, recently conducted a two-day workshop on personality development for the students of University of Agricultural Sciences, Bengaluru. The need for a programme of this nature was felt by the management as majority of the students were from a rural background. Therefore, the topics decided were such that students could gain maximum benefit from the workshop.
The topics covered were:
- Building Self- confidence
- Communication Skills
- Positive Mental Attitude
- Time Management
- Motivation & Goal Setting
The workshop consisted of games, exercises, group discussions and practice sessions to help students reflect upon their behaviour and thereby create a positive shift in their thinking and actions. The feedback from students towards this programme was very positive. They expressed their need for more of such programmes.
Swarnalatha says: “The students were highly interactive, and participated with zeal and enthusiasm, though the workshop was scheduled over the weekend. Overall it was a very satisfying experience for me. At the onset, students shared their apprehensions with me- most of them had certain inhibitions owing to their rural background. By the close of day 2, the same students expressed to me how I had helped them to uncover their strengths and goodness, and had motivated them to tap into their potential fearlessly. Such experiences fuel my passion for empowering talented youngsters.”
One of the key influencers of a person’s quality of life is his/ her ability to manage one’s emotions. This is especially important in the formative years of adolescence. Pre-University College Students find themselves often overwhelmed with emotions- what with the myriad challenges they face. Physiological changes, exam anxiety, performance pressure, peer pressure, dealing with parents’ expectations… all add to a teenager’s emotional roller coaster.
To address this challenge in youngsters, the APS College of Arts & Science organised a guest lecture for their PUC students, delivered by MD & CEO of SAI Pvt. Ltd, Prof. Swarnalatha Iyer. The lecture, presided over by the Principal, focussed on helping the youngsters identify and manage their emotions better.
Our attitudes shape our behaviours and thereby shape our personalities. The key to having a successful life is to maintain a positive mental attitude towards life events. Emphasising on this aspect, Swarnalatha’s lecture brought to light the importance of responding to situations as opposed to reacting. Expounding the difference between the two, her lecture taught the young adults HOW to respond instead of reacting, drawing on several examples. It is this quality which affirms one’s level of maturity, and marks the transformation of a teenager from a child to an adult.
SAI Pvt. Ltd. is thankful to APS College for this initiative, and looks forward to more such collaborations with the institution.
